Go shoppingLindsey Nkem, a 15-year-old young writer from Edmonton, Canada, was announced as the winner of our joint international young writers’ short story award with IGGY on Monday evening, 15 October, at the Shakespeare’s Globe. Unfortunately, Lindsey was unable to make the trip to the UK to accept the award; however, she sent her thanks via Skype, expressing her gratitude for “this incredible opportunity” and her admiration for the other five shortlisted young writers. Besides being awarded a £2,500 cash prize, Lindsey will also have an extract of her winning story displayed on a large poster at a London Underground station (we’ll let you know when and where) and its entirety published in an upcoming print issue of Litro Magazine. In the meantime, you can read Lindsey’s story online at Litro: “I Hope There’s WiFi in Heaven“, a letter of complaint lamenting the difficulties of an existence without WiFi.
The other five shortlisted writers were also awarded a cash prize of £500 each, thanks to a generous donation from Warwick alumni John Rothenberg. You can read all the shortlisted entries here.
